SpamStream v2
The second iteration of an interactive installation using blog comment spam as a content source, exploring the relationship between what we read, see and hear on the internet. In V2, a viewer/user now has access to seven buttons on a controller (based on seven categories: Drugs, Religion, Sex, Violence, Money, Entertainment, and Advertising). Each button press plays a random audio file of a phrase from that category; an image pulled from Bing image search for that phrase appears on a large projection. The image is displayed at a random position in the collage and passed through one of six color filters and the phrases are displayed as text on an adjacent monitor. Over time, the images fade out, giving the experience a temporal and ephemeral quality. The result is an interactive multimedia collage of internet imagery that is never the same twice, at once mysterious and familiar.
